K-12 and Post-Secondary Support

HPN’s collaborative has built a pipeline that transitions students to Kindergarten by expanding and providing wrap-around support for students and families through high school graduation and post-secondary transitions at career technical schools, 2 and 4-year colleges, and adult programs.  


Some programs restrict enrollment or reserve spaces for families in HPN who live in the Tennyson-Harder neighborhood or attend a partner school (Tyrrell Elementary, Russ Elementary, Glassbrook Elementary, Chavez Middle, Tennyson High)

  • Computer Clubhouse -
    • Eden Youth and Family Center’s Computer Clubhouse provides a safe space for youth to engage in life skills, job readiness, and technology afterschool programs. The Computer Clubhouse offers 21st Century technology workshops and a mentorship program for 6th through 12th-grade students.

  • Community Counseling Clinic (CCC) - 海角社区
    • CCC is designed for two purposes: 1) to provide free counseling services to the diverse members of the Hayward community, and 2) to provide professional clinical training opportunities for students in 海角社区’s School Counseling, School Psychology, and Marriage and Family Therapy programs. CCC offers four types of programs to meet a variety of counseling needs: Individual Counseling, Couples Counseling, Family Counseling, and Support Groups. Therapists support their clients in various areas, such as making decisions, communicating, coping, improving communication skills, renewing relationship harmony, identifying strengths and supports, increasing emotional awareness, and developing problem-solving skills.

  • Family Education Program -
    • The City of Hayward’s Library and Community Services Department provides Family Education Program services at Hayward Promise Neighborhood schools (including after-school homework support and adult literacy support services) four (4) days per week, two (2) hours each day.   • Mental Health Intervention - La Familia Counseling Services
    • Mental Health Intervention is offered through HUSD’s partnership with La Familia and Alameda Health Care Services, students needing mental health resources will be referred 
    • when necessary.

  • Promotores de Salud -
    • Tiburcio Vásquez Health Center Inc. (TVHC) Health Promoters Academia program: Provides an annual training for Hayward Promise Neighborhoods (HPN) residents to develop leadership skills and to become an effective health advocate for their community. Through 15 sessions of valuable learning, participants learn how to do successful community outreach by providing resources and information. This is a very transformative training that prepares community members to effectively connect people with resources through the application of leadership skills and healthy life.

  • Words for Lunch -
    • Provides summer learning and nutrition for Hayward children and youth. Participants receive free nourishing lunches paired with literacy development activities and a free book to take home.

    • Eden Youth and Family Center in collaboration with HUSD will recruit and train 8th through 12th grade students to provide peer to peer education to 7th through 12th grade students on the harmful effects of substance use and abuse on the teenage brain with emphasis on the rising misuse of opioids amongst teens in our community.

    • Offering direct service support to families and sites to help improve student attendance, and reduce chronic absenteeism with case management and resource support from Outreach Workers and the Attention 2 Attendance notification system, and additional strategic planning support to site personnel that supports a positive attendance pattern.

    • Chabot College offers a variety of programming for rising middle, middle, and high school students that focuses on fun, hands-on activities, builds self-esteem and confidence, and supports a college-going identity.  Programs include options for STEM, art, cultural development, and more.

    • Activities/programs (such as AVID and Puente) are being implemented at the Secondary Hayward Promise Neighborhoods (HPN) schools to create a college-going culture.   • Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC) - UC Berkeley Center for Educational Partnerships
    • The UC Berkeley DCAC College Adviser Fellows make college a viable option for students at Tennyson, Hayward, & Mt. Eden High Schools by providing them with intensive and on-going college advising and college preparation support, including academic advising and course planning assistance, college and financial aid information and application assistance, SAT Reasoning Test preparation support, academic enrichment opportunities, and more.

    • Offers academic math intervention/acceleration and STEM career exploration for rising 7th graders to help students in transitional grades with building Algebra and Geometry readiness capacity, through technology integrated math support classes, field trips, mentoring, ROP courses, Project Based Learning, STEM workshops, and team-building activities.
